Training and qualification with duty type handguns and the passing of the Use of Force/Deadly Physical Force examination is mandatory to successfully complete the 47 Hour Firearms and 8 Hour Annual Firearms Training Courses for Armed Security Guards.  
Where a student is currently employed as an armed guard,
 
training and qualification must be with the handgun they are authorized to carry in the performance of their duties 

and other weapons (shotgun and/or rifle) they are authorized to carry should be fired for familiarization.  

For handgun qualifying courses of fire a silhouette target must be used with a scoring area equal to, or smaller than that of, the standard B-27 target.  

Students must possess valid pistol permits and NYS security guard registration cards at the time of enrollment into firearms training courses for armed guards.
