Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards
It is the mandated Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards. This course is a requirement for all individuals seeking employment as security guards in New York State.

All our instructors providing New York State mandated pre-assignment training are certified through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DJCS)/Security Guard Program (SGP) in accordance with Part 6029 of the New York State Official Compilation of Codes, Rules and regulations. 

The mandated eight hour pre-assignment course may only be administered by an approved security guard training school in an approved classroom setting. This course requires one hour for review and examination of 25 questions.

General 16 Hour On-the-job Training Course for Security Guards
This course was developed in response to requests from within the security guard industry. It is mandated by law that security guards complete 16 hours of on-the-job training.
The General 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards requires one hour for review and examination.

A minimum score of 70 percent must be achieved by each student to satisfactorily complete the course.

All our instructors teaching the General 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards are certified through BMP/SGP in accordance with Part 6029 of the New York State Compilation of Codes, Rules and Regulations.

The General 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course may only be administered by an approved security guard training school at a facility that has an "environment conducive to learning".

Eight Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards

This course is a requirement for all security guards in New York State and must be completed on a calendar year. 

All instructors our providing New York State mandated annual in-service training are certified through the Bureau for Municipal Police (BMP)/Security Guard Program (SGP) in accordance with Part 6029 of the New York State Compilation of Codes, Rules and Regulations.

The mandated eight hour annual in-service course may only be administered by an approved security guard training school in an approved classroom setting.

The eight hour annual in-service course is comprised of seven mandatory topics and an elective. No final examination is required for this training.

47 Hour Firearms Training Course for Armed Security Guards

The 47 Hour Firearms Training Course for Armed Security Guards includes use of Force/Deadly Physical Force and Range Instruction and Qualification. This course is mandated for all armed security guards in New York State and is the only one authorized for such training. 

All instructors affiliated with our firearms training staff who provide New York State mandated firearms training are certified appropriately through the Security Guard Program (SGP) in accordance with Part 6029 of the New York State Compilation of Codes. Rules and Regulations (NYCRR).

Additionally, the Use of Force/Deadly Physical Force component of the firearms training course requires a written examination.

At the conclusion of training, a 10 question examination comprised of approved questions must be administered. A minimum score of 70 percent must be achieved by each student to satisfactorily complete this mandated training.

However, due to the litigious nature of this topic area, SGP strongly 
recommends that the minimum passing score be set at 100 percent.


Qualification with the duty weapon & ammo by each student. To qualify, each student is required to fire at least 
2 qualifying scores of 70 percent 
(175 of a possible 250) with service/duty ammunition.

MUST POSSESS A NYS SECURITY GUARD LICENSE, AND A N.Y.S. 
PISTOL PERMIT AND USE YOUR OWN HANDGUN.

Comprised of 3hrs classroom instruction on use of Force/Deadly Physical Force with a written examination 
and 5hrs of practical range training and live fire for qualification.

A $200 Deposit for the 47 hr Armed Guard. 

A $20 Deposit is required to hold a spot for any other course given. 

A $100 fee for returned checks.
